作者简介

Dan Fogelberg是出生于伊利诺州的一名美国歌手，他以他轻柔的歌喉、清澈的吉他声及动人的词句获得"民谣诗人"的美称。 他的作品具有明朗和谐的旋律及温柔缠绵的歌词，使得Fogelberg的歌具备了一切使人喜爱的条件。较为严格的讲Dan Fogelderg并不是一位真正意义上的乡村艺人。他的风格横跨了乡村、民谣和摇滚。

创作背景

歌曲里的主人公：Johann Augustus Sutter（1803-1880），1834年5月13日为免因债台高筑而面临的牢狱之灾，从瑞士进入法国而后乘船到美国。在美国到处闯荡，伪造了个军衔变成“萨特上尉”。1839年6月他到了个小村子－－现在的旧金山前身，成功游说了墨西哥总督，得到了几十英里的处女地。8月中旬他在萨克瑞门托河与美国河交汇处落脚，开始建立要塞，并命名他的王国为新瑞士。
