explain，其义为解释，阐述，说明。在英语语法中，有及物动词（vt.）和不及物动词（vi.）之分，不同语法下其义及使用方法不同。

explain的意思/nvt.& vi. 讲解，解释；/n/nvt. 说明…的原因，辩解；/n/nvi. 说明，解释，辩解

用法

explain在英语中只有动词的用法，分为及物动词和不及物动词，意思为讲解，解释，说明等。

explain在动词中的用法后面一般跟explain sth to sb或 后接反身代词作宾语，具体如下：

1. 表示“解释”，通常不接双宾语；若语义上需要这类结构，可以改用 explain sth to sb结构。如：

请把这条规则给我们解释一下。

误：Please explain us this rule.

正：Please explain this rule to us.

若其中的 sth 较长或较复杂（比如是不定式或从句），也可以用explain to sb sth。如：

He explained to us why he was late. 他给我们解释了他迟到的原因。

2. 有时后接反身代词作宾语，有两个意思。如：

(1) 表示把自己的意思表达清楚。如：

Could you explain yourself a bit more? 你能把意思说得更清楚点吗?

(2) 表示对自己的行为进行解释。如；

Late again, Smith? I hope you can explain yourself! 又迟到了，史密斯?我希望你能说明一下原因！/n/n
